I once purchased X5 without trying before (I never said I'm clever) and after some effort I got my money back and deleted it. An absolutely useless, even annoying program to work with if you are a creative person. You have to do exactly what tell you -make a website in 3 steps or so- and the end result does not look original at all. No space for creativity, it's the kind of webbuilder that 'free webhosts' offer but then you work online. I even do not want this for free. Their website is full of 'blabla' and false promises that can be pretty confusing for newbies.
Much more fun to work with are this WYSIWYG's:
* CoffeeCup
* EwiSoft
* Kompozer Easy Web Authoring
* Magix
* NVU Page Creator (good first step to real webdesign)
* Pablo WYSIWYG Builder (my fav)
* Webpage Maker
* WebPlus Website Design
* Xara Webdesigner

The software does create a website in 5 easy steps, but it's not so easy to get the website looking exactly how you want it in 5 easy steps. Website wizards generally set up a generic website easy enough, just like Website X5. But if you plan to use such software then usually it's because you don't have the necessary experience to do it with coding. If you can code yourself, then why use this software? I suspect there are only two ways to get a website how you want it... learn to code, or pay someone else who can code to do it for you. making a website is very time consuming and can be frustrating to some. Website X5 may help some people, but I suspect this type of software still has a lot more evolving to do yet.
Other than that, the software runs like a dream and is very straight forward, but will still require a lot of work on the part of the user to get a website looking right for them.
Again???
Granted it does what it says on the tin but there is v8 SMART (not Evolution 8 which costs) freely available from their website.
The only trouble with v8 is that 99% of their templates only work with the above v7.
I downloaded this last time, and I couldn't remember why I took it out so did so again.
Now I recall, it comes with a wee message saying it cannot activate with BIG FONT setting and I must change my screen display in settings.
I use a rather large screen and work all day with the PC, am also getting past the youthful vision stage so big font is better for my eyes.
Having said that, I did a quick change and it is a reasonably simple piece of soft, if all you want is a basic site and don't have time or patience to learn CSS this could be for you.
If it weren't for the font issue I would probably keep it as a quick backup or "inspirational" tool.
It is a sort of Paint By Numbers kit, similar to the Flash software I commented on before.
There will no doubt be a lot of criticism of it, but one has to bear in mind it is designed as a 3 step process and doesn't promote itself as a fancy bells and whistles web editor.
If you want more creativity and control, try something else.
Not a keeper for me, but for what it is it is good.
As was stated over and over when this software was offered here earlier, this *IS* free anyway. You can download it from the programmer's website for free - each and every day. Also, this is crippled to an extent that anyone with only the slightest design aspirations will bin it immediately.
What I find pretty cheeky is that the manufacturer again acts the generous guy by giving away software that they are offering for free anyway! Shame on them!
