Is this the DVD ripper that we are looking for?
Well, I think this question depends on what functions you request. A popularly good DVD ripping solution should, in my point of view, at least, be:
1). Easy to Use with a straightforward/user-friendly interface, profiles are preset and easy to be found.
2). Support the most popular video formats and audio formats to fulfill most users.
3). Essential ripping features, this includes the ability to remove DVD’s copy protections, especially from Disney.
4 ). Ripping quality, I see most of dvd ripper provides advertised that their products are able to make 1:1 copies or rip to whatever video format without quality loss. Well, this is IMPOSSIABLE. But if could tell the quality loss when you are watching, that is enough and this program does the trick.
5). Ripping speed, my computer is not among the top ones but I think it is good and able to fulfill my needs now. I run a i5 processor with 8 gig ram. But ripping speed always frustrates me if I want to good quality videos. Previously when I was ripping to my iPad, I set the resolution to 1280*720 and found it slow and took forever. Later I found how stupid I am! My DVD’s resolution is only 720*480!
6 ). Stability/Compatibility, I personally rank this feature higher than other ones as I am really sick of my previous ripper’s continuous crashing! This program is officially advertised to be Windows 8 compatible, well, I say YES, it do work great on my Windows 8 Release Preview!
7). Others like easy of installation and more advanced features needed by advanced users. I found this program is able to save my own loved profiles, which is a really user-friendly feature!

Not a bad software and handbrake alternative
The good
1) Easy install and uninstall with no spyware, adware including
2) Can decrypt the protected DVDs, which handle brake can not
3) A handful of useful video editing features
4) Support both SD and HD quality output
5) Straightforward interface and convert a number of video formats
The bad
1) No DVD to DVD copy function
2) No burning DVD function
3) not support the some latest device like Nexus 7

Conclusion
If you don’t have a DVD back up software, don’t miss this one. If you still use handbrake and not satisfied, this is a good alternative.

You know sometimes I find simply incredible how people can be so naive and obtuse while being online.

As far as I'm concened whenever I don't like a comment here or elsewhere I usually skip reading it without moaning or complaining about it against the author of that comment...that's it...end of the story!

After all what makes Internet so great is the FREEDOM it lets you enjoy whenever and wherever you are online.

And yes, you definitely hit the mark when you said why I always mention a huge list of best freeware alternatives: in fact, if I do that, it's because I understand that people's tastes & needs may be different than mine, not to mention that system resources (RAM, CPU, OS etc...) are also different...so what is the best tool for me could not be as good as for others.

But the only way to figure out whether or not a FREE TOOL is worth downloading and/or it matches your personal needs & tastes, is actually to try it...then it's up to you decide what's the best app for you!!

To test any software without messing up the registry of my machine, I highly recommend you using a magic FREE TOOL called "Toolwiz Timefreeze".

Good freeware alternatives can also replace any GAOTD you have downloaded here, should you lose the GAOTD KEY LICENSE due to a sudden PC crash for instance, not to mention that they are always UPDATABLE, unlike any GAOTD offered here.

That being said, as for today's giveaway it looks like an excellent software...very similar to Wondershare DVD Ripper (looks like a clone actually).

It's even able to convert any DVD movies into HD videos with an excellent output quality, giving users the ability to customize their own settings. Supports multi-core CPU processing and NVIDIA CUDA...so you can't ask more!! So it's definitely a keeper for me.

Downloaded and registered OK. This DVD ripper software's basic functionality is solid. It is a good DVD ripper application. Some additional features such as its video editor could be improved. Add the quality of the ripped video files is very good. No malware, no adware. Windows 7 OS with i7, 6G RAM, RW DVD Drive.

#5 - Bapegual: Not everyone has a positive experience with every software program they try. It is obvious that Giovanni is not shilling for any developers due to the sheer number of different programs he finds to compare to the current offering. The software he finds is free. Therefore, you may try as few or as many different programs until you find the "one" that works best for you, or you are most comfortable with, or which, in your opinion, is the best for your needs.

Personally, I very sincerely appreciate having someone as thoughtful as Giovanni doing all the legwork necessary to lead me to as many software alternatives as possible in case the GAOTD does not work for me or satisfy me.
