Very clean install, uses almost no CPU on my PC. My desktop icons are hidden, so I don't test how it affects those. I have to turn off Stretch to keep the clock round. These things are a matter of personal preference, I don't care for this one but I'm sure that some people will like it. Since Windows 7 will do slideshow backgrounds, changing at whatever frequency you want, I use that or EarthDesk.
the graphics are too poor.
More and more people are using dual monitors and this program apparently has no idea what that means. You have the options of stretching across both monitors which looks horrible or not stretching which puts half of the scene on one monitor and the other half on the other monitor.
It is a matter of taste whether you like it or not. This is true for the particular design and also for this kind of app. We could waste years deliberating about that. I'm just not going to participate in that.
Ofcourse it is just windowdressing but that isn't bad. Why not simply enjoy your desktop with some windowdressing. If you're not hardcore processing stuff heating your processor, this ain't bad at all. I my self like some windowdressing once in a while.
There could be some improvements though. Your Icons will get a dark background (dark, depending o the settings of your pc) which I don't like, because there is no need to change the icon background and I would like it untouched.
It also doesn't cooperate with fences ( http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/ )
These things have been mentioned before with other releases of anim.wallpapers. They fixed keeping the setting with restart, they used to get lost all the time.
Fantasy Clock Animated Wallpaper is another nice offering from Desktop Paints. Whether you're talking about their wallpaper or animated desktops, you get something that works efficiently using minimal resources *If* it can use your graphics card/chip for D3D -- they won't work everywhere for everyone [FWIW I show just under 1% CPU use (w/Process Explorer) & up to 10% GPU (Graphics Processor) with RAM use climbing to ~80k before dropping to 3 or 4, then slowly & steadily climbing upwards again]. Like their other wallpapers, Fantasy Clock is designed for a 4:3 screen -- you can either check the box in the configuration window to stretch it, or put up with pillar bars on a widescreen monitor... a round clock of course doesn't stretch well. Animated objects/FX are generally kept simple [I assume to keep the wallpaper light weight], but their more-or-less 2D look isn't as noticeable when/if those objects or sprites are kept small -- IMHO, compared to other Desktop Paint animated wallpapers that have been on GOTD, Fantasy Clock is pretty much middle of the pack in that respect.
Fantasy Clock Animated Wallpaper [like their other animated wallpapers] is a single, small file, in this case weighing in at ~3 MB. If you change anything from the default configuration that info's stored in the registry under the shared DesktopPaints.com key, but otherwise it's fully portable -- I mention that key being shared because the last setting made over-rides earlier settings, e.g. if you had another animated wallpaper set to stretch, then set Fantasy Clock to not stretch, your older wallpaper will not stretch either unless or until you reset it.
I really like some of the Desktop Paints animated wallpapers, but can't help wondering why they haven't tackled their screen aspect ratio problems, if only by using a still image background & having the animation centered, using a blurred repetition of the center portion of the screen, or even just by setting the pillar box color to something that matches better than black. I realize that not everyone has a wide screen monitor, but they are the most widely available on sale & at low cost -- FWIW I haven't seen a 4:3 monitor on sale in the last few years [and I watch too, because my wife's 4:3 LCD is getting old, & she prefers that aspect for her casual games].
Afinal ja sei tirar :D
